Copiague is a hamlet in the Town of Babylon on the South Shore of Long Island.  Nestled between Lindenhurst, Amityville, North Amityville and the Great South Bay, Copiague’s total area is 3.2 square miles and is 35 miles from NYC.  Located South of Montauk Highway, Copiague is devided into 3 peninsulas.  Amity Harbor with an Amityville zip code is the southwestern peninsula.  Venice, with a Lindenhurst zip code is the southeastern penninsula and Copiague Harbor with it’s Copiague zip code is the central peninsula.  The population for the combined peninsulas is 7,998.  60.55% of the population speaks English only, while 39.45% speak other languages.  The largest non speaking language is Spanish spoken by 35.9% of the population.

Copiague Demographics

Housing in Copiague is comprised of mostly single family homes – capes, ranches, colonials, hi-ranches and some split level homes. The median price of sold homes for December 2018 was $351,ooo in Copiague an increase of 17% from the previous year.  This number includes, all single family properties, co-ops and condos.  As the market in the area becomes more competitive home prices in Copigaue is expected to continue to see a steady rise.  However, Copiague’s unique offering of different locations allows it to still remain very affordable to home buyers from different socio economic backgrounds.

Much of the outdoor activities in warmer months are centered around Tanner Park.  Perched on the Great South Bay, Tanner Park offers a large athletic area catering to various sporting activities.  Among the amenities are tennis courts, basket ball courts, baseball, soccer and lacrosse fields.  In addition there is a spray park, beach, dock, marina, picnic area, restaurant, senior center and swimming.  Many outdoor free concerts and events are held throughout the season at the park attrating very large crowds.

Copiague Union Free School District has four elementary schools (K-5), one, middle school (6-8) and one high school (9-12).  In addition there are a number of institutions of higher education located within 15 miles from the center of Copiague.  Several hospitals, medical centers, nursing homes, and urgent care facilities in the Town of Babylon provide service to Copiague and the surrounding communities.

Copiague train station located on Marconi Blvd and Great Neck Road is on the Babylon line.  That area is comparatively more densely commercially populated providing a variety of services to all of the Babylon area.   Though Copiague is easily accessible by public transportation, as is typical of the Babylon area, most residents commute to work by car.

As Copiague continues to expand, many home buyers are attracted to the variety of  living options available to the community.
