Amityville is one of the 3 villages in the Town of Babylon.  Located in Western Suffolk County, Amityville is surrounded by Copiague, North Massapequa, Farmingdale and the Great South Bay.  With a total area of 2.4 square miles, Amityville has a population of 9,524 residents.  65% of the community are homeowners, 35% renters.

Amityville has a densely populated downtown area with shops, restaurants and bars.  On Route 110 in Amityville, residents and visitors alike are able to visit the many culturally diverse restaurants ranging from, Caribbean, Hispanic, Italian, Irish, to name just a few.  The very lively downtown area provides entertainment which includes concerts, museums, and an abundance of night life venues. In the center of the Village there is a small area called “The Triangle”.  Located at the fork of Broadway and Park Ave, it is home to a quaint little park.   Close by is the Amity Beach on the Great South Bay and Sand Island off the shore which is accessible only by boat.  Amityville is in very close proximity to all of Long Island’s major highways.

The Union Free School District of Amityville has three Elementary Schools, one Junior High School and one High School, with an average enrollment of 3,000 students.  Most of Amityville is served by this district, however, there are areas of the community that is  served by Farmingdale School District and Amity Harbor, a bay front community is primarily served by Copiague School District.

Largely made up of single property homes, the median home price in Amityville for the year ending December 2018 was $325,000, an increase of 6.2% from the previous year.

Amityville train station  at John Street is the westernmost station on the Babylon line in Suffolk County.  Travel by train to New York City is approximately one hour.

Amityville was 1st made famous by the book, Amityville Horror which was originally written by Jay Anson and published in 1977.  The 1979 movie of the the same name depicted the alleged experiences in 1974 of the Lutz family who lived in the Dutch Colonial house on Ocean Ave.
